An amulet or talisman is usually worn as a personal ornament or item of jewellery which endows its wearer with certain powers or capabilities. At the very least it affords protection for the wearer's wellbeing.
Inscription with an appropriate symbol enhances the power and concentrates the effect.
Historically a shaman or wizard would construct a spell that could be used by a lay-person having little esoteric knowledge. By wearing a charm or carrying it close to you, you were protected or aided by the spell placed on and into the symbol of power.
An Amulet is a charm that brings power to the wearer. If health or wealth (for example) are sought, an amulet will help you manifest them. Amulets can be quite powerful and their uses are many.
A Talisman is a charm that protects the wearer by warding off negativity. Talismans can be found for protection from almost anything.
Most amulets have defined purposes, an amulet for wealth would not do you much good if you wanted to . An amulet is truly a good luck charm.
